My Story
Clinical Reflexologist, BSc (hons) BA (hons) MAR MPR and registered with CNHC for clinical reflexology
I gained my BSc (hons) in Complementary Therapies at the University of Cumbria in 2012 and am a member of the AOR (Association of Reflexologist) PR (Professional Reflexology) and The Complementary Medical Association.
Studying anatomy and physiology really gave me an understanding about myself and how disconnected from my body I was. I found that the more I learned the more I understood how to take better care of myself, for example studying the effects of stress on the body systems and how to manage it allowed me to see that thoughts play such a valuable role in how our body systems react. It was fascinating to see the power of reflexology in our practical sessions and implementing our learning of theory. At the time the amount of theory subjects we covered in the BSc was quite a challenge to do, however, I wouldn’t change any of it as all of it has been relevant over the years of being a reflexologist and running a business.
To this day I am fascinated and amazed at the reflection of ourselves in our feet and hands and how we can stimulate, sedate or sooth both body and mind. It is an absolute joy to support people through reflexology and to be able to share knowledge.
I specialise in Clinical Reflexology and have carried out further training in treatments which compliment reflexology. I am passionate about supporting people living with Elhers Danlos and Hypermobility types, ME CF, Fibromyalgia, MS, Motor-Neurone Disease and Cancer care.
As a practitioner I also offer:
Reflexology Lymphatic Drainage
Reiki Reflexology
Usui Reiki
Kundalini Reiki
Holistic Face Massage
Energetic Facelift
Chinese Fire Cupping
Moroccan Candle Wax Massage
I have met some amazing clients, therapists, or people at networking events or through social media, I have learnt a great deal from them as well as sharing my love of reflexology and complementary therapies. I now have the pleasure of doing generalised talks to newly diagnosed MS patients and for our local headache/migraine forum to explain the importance of qualifications and what to look for if considering a complementary or alternative therapies. Having health conditions myself, it took a long time to find a therapist who understood me and my conditions and altered my treatments accordingly. Previously I had been left in pain or just felt like another one in, one out person! That is a big factor in how important getting the right information out there is. I now also offer reflexology self-help workshops which gives people a taste of how powerful reflexology can be. It is most certainly NOT a foot massage!
Why I Chose The Professional Reflexology Diploma
My initial aim when I first thought about teaching 5 years ago was to write and develop my own course and get it accredited. This was due to the BSc not being continued at the University of Cumbria and the lack of quality stand-alone reflexology courses or anything above a level three diploma available. However, while running my own health and wellbeing centre, I enjoyed the hands on and meeting people far more than sitting at the computer, therefore it was put on the back burner.
I did write and offer workshops which have been very well received. Knowing the time I put into writing the workshops gave me an insight to the hours it would take to develop a substantial course of standard and quality with more than what can be downloaded off the internet.
I was aware that I needed a teaching qualification so completed the Award in Education and Training with Ivita Learning.
My main mission when thinking or discussing teaching was to have high standards of practice and cover a range of relatable subjects to really in-still a breadth of knowledge and confidence for each practitioner.
In 2016 I had the opportunity to move to new premises in an 18C barn in the beautiful village of Askham, near Penrith teaming up with my friend and colleague Ceris Owen, Chiropractic. We spent a year converting the barn into a built for purpose health hub, finally opening as The Health Barn in October 2017.
During the renovation of the barn my idea of teaching came back into view. Whilst doing market research I came across the new teaching qualification that Professional Reflexology were looking for people to teach. Wow! How about perfect timing.
I am one for needing detail and like information and of course high standards. I wanted to know everything about the Practitioner Diploma and Martyn (Martyn Finke, of PR) happily answered every question I had with confidence and ease. However, there was also the fact that I needed to fit their criteria for teaching. Reaching these conclusions was more than an application form online, email or phonecall. I had the pleasure of going to the headquarters of PR and the pleasure of meeting and spending time with Martyn and Wendy, founders of PR and the developers of the practitioner diploma. We connected over coffee and could have talked and talked about our love, passion and the amazement of reflexology for the whole weekend easily.
I was overjoyed when they were happy I’d met their stringent tutor needs and even more excited at seeing what the practitioner diploma covered. The balance between theory and practice and support available was fantastic, not to mention the years of experience Martyn and Wendy have had to find that perfect balance but proven tutors and practitioners in their own right. As standards are important to me I was so pleased to see that their practitioner diploma is fully accredited and recognised by the complementary natural healthcare council (CNHC).
I returned to the Health Barn with the enthusiasm to start as soon as the renovations were finished and the Health Barn was open. It was planned that I would begin in March 2018 then Oct 2018 as I had a room space that I could rent that would have been lovely. Life events and working plus making sure the Health Barn ran smoothly made it go on the back burner again.
However, in November 2018 we started the upstairs renovations which included the space I would teach in…………………………………..
The official launch of Christine Jackson Reflexology - PR Practitioner Diploma was in 2019 and due to the pandemic has meant things have had to alter and adapt.
The next cohort is September 2022
